Doing the Lord's work, one tip at a Time
This is by far one of oddest,
but happiest stories I have heard about in awhile. A mystery man has been
leaving outrageously large tips, on bills across the continental U.S., and down
into Mexico. This un-known benefactor
will leave for example, on a $ 111.11 bill, a tip for $ 1000. That's a tip of a little under 1000 percent. No one
knows who he is, but servers in most locations report that they served, one or
multiple middle aged men, or a middle aged man and a woman.
The receipts are stamped,
saying tips for Jesus, or @tips for Jesus, and bare an illegible signature, and
an extremely large sum of money written in the tip section. Occasionally the
words "god bless" are also written next to the "tips for
Jesus" stamp. There aren't many more clues to go on here, except that for
one, all charges have been paid for with
an American Express credit card, or an Amex Black Card, which is an invitation
only card, for their rich clients.
Another clue of sorts is
that this "benefactor" snaps pictures right before he leaves, of the
waiter, waitress, or bar tender, and then posts them to an instagram account.
Each picture sporting their happy/shocked faces. The instagram feed comes with
the tag line, "doing the lord's work, one tip at a time". The account is now sporting more than 54 000
followers, and is still growing strong.
Most recently "tipping
for Jesus" was at The Seagrape in
Fairfield, Connecticut. Sporting a $ 5000.00 dollar gratuity, on a $112.00
bill. Before this the "tipping for
Jesus" benefactor chose 3 establishments in Manhattan. The Nomad hotel,
where a waiter received a $7000.00 gratuity, The smith restaurant a$5000.00
gratuity, and a 25 year old student at Bo's kitchen and Bar room, one Aruj
Dhawan received $1000.00. It is rumoured
that Jack Selby, former Vice president of Pay pal, is the generous benefactor,
and according to Aruj Dhawan, this is the man he served the other night.
It is most definitely hard to
say for certain who this person is, however, this is a touching and wonderful
story that is an ongoing one. Very touching, albeit strange. Makes me almost want to go out and get a job
at a bar, and maybe get lucky one day, and have "Tips for Jesus"
visit me. However you slice it, this is
definitely cool, and in a world where dark stories can be quite prevalent, it
is always nice to see something to the contrary.

AUTO BREWERY SYNDROME: getting drunk off booze made by your own stomach !?
Could you imagine ? your sitting at home, enjoying a cozy night with
your family watching TV , and all of the sudden your drunk ! Sounds odd, silly,
and more of a joke if anything right ? well it does, however for one 61 year
old man from Texas, a self confessed
home brewer, this was his daily reality.
The 61 year old home brewer
stumbled his way into an Emergency room in Texas. He was complaining of
dizziness. Given that the man seemed somewhat intoxicated, the nurses ran a
breathalyzer test. Sure enough the man was well over the legal alcohol limit,
sporting an alcohol blood percentage of .37 ! For those of you not familiar
with this system, here's an example. In Vancouver Canada the legal limit for
alcohol, is .05, and .02 in Germany. Safe to say this man was drunk.
The one thing that did not
make sense here, is the man claimed he had not touched a single drop of alcohol
that day. Rather hard to believe. "He would get drunk out of the blue — on
a Sunday morning after being at church, or really, just anytime," Barabara Cordell, the dean of nursing at
Panola College in Carthage, Texas has shared "His wife was so dismayed
about it that she even bought a Breathalyzer.".
So here we have it, a group of people concerned about a man's supposed
drinking problem, and the man himself confesses to not having one.
Most medical professionals
who heard about this, merely wrote the man and the case off as one of closet
alcoholism. To them it seemed a pretty
open and shut case, regardless of the fact the man in question denied the
allegations. Luckily for this man Cordell, and Dr. Justin McCarthy, gastroenterologist
in Lubbock, weren't willing to write the case of just yet. They wanted to get
to truth of what was actually going on.
In the end it was discovered,
that this man had an over abundance of brewers yeast in his digestive track.
Essentially giving it the ability for him to produce ethanol in his own gut.
His digestive track was infected with saccharomyces cerevisiae, which when
introduced to foods with carbohydrates; pasta, a bagel, bread, soda pop, or
things of this nature, the sugars present would then be fermented into ethanol
alcohol, and then the man would get drunk.
To test the hypothesis, they
kept him in a closed room for 24 hours, while during he ate carb rich foods.
They would then test his blood alcohol levels; at one point it spiked .12
percent in an extremely short period of time. Thus validating what the man had
been saying all along. They coined the syndrome as "auto-brewing"
syndrome, and have written about it in
the International Clinical Journal of Medicine, since the case.
Through a low carb diet, and
anti fungal medications the man was able to beat, and overcome the syndrome. He
is now able to enjoy a bagel without the worry of getting intoxicated ! I
definitely think that this story can be categorized as an odd, strange, and
weird tale. If you want to have ethanol present in your system, best to take it
from external sources I would say, for this syndrome does not sound fun to me.

Keeping a Severed hand alive by attaching to your foot?
You read correctly, imagine that, you have your hand severed. Not so
pretty, but in order to re attach the hand you have to wait until your arm is
healed. But how to keep your hand alive for a month or more while your arm is
healing ? This question was answered by doctors at a medical facility in south
central china, "why not attach it to his foot ?"
Xiao Wei was at work one day,
when during a work site accident his right hand was severed. His colleagues
acted quickly to recover the severed appendage, and then to rush him to a local
hospital in Changde Xiao, China. Upon arrival Xiao was told by doctors, nothing
could be done to re attach his hand, however if he were to go to the larger
regional hospital, there just may be something that can be done, but time was
of the essence. Hearing this Xiao's friend rushed him by car, to the closest
regional hospital based in Changsha, where they hoped his hand could be
re-attached.
Arriving 7 hours after the
accident, the doctors at Changsha regional were hopeful that re-attaching the
hand was most definitely a possibility, however, it could not be done right
away. According to one medic associated
to the case, “His injury was severe.
Besides ripping injuries, his arm was also flattened. ". Given this the
arm needed to be treated, and reconstructed before any re attachment could be
attempted. This is where the question of how to keep the hand alive until then
arose, and led to a simple but ingenious idea. Why not attach the hand to the
patients foot !? Xiao's hand was then attached above his ankle, in order to tap
into a sufficient blood supply, in order to keep the hand's tissues alive.
It took roughly a month
before Xiao's arm had recovered enough for the initial re-attachment surgery to
be attempted, but the initial surgery has been a success. Doctors have said,
Xiao will require a number of follow up surgeries to fully re-attach the hand
to a state where it will fully function, but they are hopeful for the long term
success of this surgical endeavour.
Xiao was quoted as saying,
"I am still young, and I couldn't imagine life without a right hand."
An amazing story, with a very strange solution. You have to give it to
medical science, and their ability to think on the ball, of interesting and
creative ways to deal with medical emergencies. This most definitely was a
story of the strange, the weird, and the amazing.
A Man falls asleep on a Plane, Wakes Up Alone and in the dark!
This is most definitely a strange one folks. Imagine your taking a flight, with a connection to make, and you decide well I am just going to take a nap. Then you wake up to find yourself in a locked, cold, and shut down plane. Scary to say the least, however, this is exactly what happened to a man from Louisiana.
One Mr.Tom Wagner was taking a flight from Louisiana, with a lay over in Texas, with a final destination of California. He was on his way to see his sister, and his flight was to touch down at Houston Bush Intercontinental airport for layover. As said in an interview after the fact, he sat down, took off his hat, and decided to take a nap. Somehow during this nap the plane de boarded, was locked and shut down without anyone noticing there was still a passenger on board. He woke up Friday night, seated in his window seat at the back in the cold, locked, and deserted plane. "I was like, what's going on? I thought maybe it was a layover, still on the same plane." Tom said during an interview. At first he thought he must be dreaming, but after a few moments of sitting in the pitch black darkness, he quickly realized this was not the case. He then proceeded to make a panicked phone call to his girlfriend, " .. she thought I was crazy. I said, 'Debbie I'm locked on the plane.' I said, 'I'm telling you the truth; you better go somewhere and get me off this plane."
After realizing her loved one was in no way pulling a prank on her, she then proceeded to call the company, United Express. It took roughly a half an hour on the phone, and then staff members of the airline came, and to their astonishment did indeed find a passenger locked on board, Mr. Tom Wagner. The airline reportedly told him to keep it all hush , hush. They put him up in a hotel for the night, wouldn't refund his ticket, but gave him a $250.00 dollar voucher. They made sure he got to his actual destination the next morning.
I don't know about you but this is a shockingly strange and weird story, and quite frankly kind of scary. How would you feel if this happened to you? do you think you would have been able to keep your cool ? What if this happened to someone who had a major health disorder, or a multitude of anxiety disorders. This sounds like something which could have been an absolute hell for such a person, possibly a fatal one. I have got to say, I think this airline has to shape up their policies and procedures because this is pretty ridiculous and things of this nature should not happen.
